Cabletron Systems E4 Series Desktop Network Interface (DNI) cardsenable users to connect Macintosh SE systems to an Ethernet network usinga wide variety of transmission media including twisted pair, fiber optic,and coaxial cable.The E4 series interface is available in three styles for the AppleMacintosh SE and consists of a controller board, which fits onto the SE'smain computer board, and an I/O card that is attached to the SE'sinternal accessory port. Each E4 series DNI card is available with 16KB or 64 KB of onboard buffer memory.Cabletron's DNI cards were the industry's first PC network interfacecards to have built-in network management and analyzer capabilities.Network administrators can gather information from and control the DNIcards using remote network management stations.
